Born in the birthplace of hip-hop, The Bronx of NYC, Pete Rock- Peter O. Phillips, better known by his stage name Pete Rock, is an American record producer, DJ and rapper. He rose to prominence in the early 1990s as one half of the critically acclaimed group Pete Rock & CL Smooth. Early on in his career, he was also famed for his remix work. Rock’s career, spanning more than 20 years, has led to collaborations with countless rappers like The Notorious B.I.G. and hip-hop artists like Public Enemy, a GRAMMY® win for Rap Album of The Year for his contribution to Kanye West’s, My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, and always ends up on “Greatest producers of all time” lists. His father’s career as a DJ sparked Rock’s intrigue with vinyl. Currently his collection is upwards of 100,000. He enjoys crate digging the most obscure record shops all over the world.
